Lecture Presentation Activity

Kahoot: Interactive Trivia Activity Screenshots

The Kahoot was a popular activity for most group presentations. Our Kahoot included 11 questions that reviewed all of the information from the chapter regarding social media within public relations. Students had a lot of fun racing against the clock and competing with their fellow classmates. Kahoot activities are a great way to encourage students to stay engaged during presentations and enhance information retention.

The third chapter focused on social media and its relationship with journalism. One point that resonated with me the most was the ability to use social media as a way to decrease bias effectiveness of major news corporations. I've switched between different channels like NBC and FOX and noticed the glaring differences in the reporting of similar topics. Many people, myself included, cannot decide on which news networks to watch due to the extreme biases on either side. I've resorted to public access radio for hopefully the most unbiased reporting.

Chapter 2 was all about social media and especially emphasized the term CMC, computer-mediated communication. Today, social media is a major form of communication from close friends to pen pals all across the globe. It has heavily influenced newer generations and how we communicate with each other. While it does increase communication in general, it reduces face to face communication. It introduces the controversy between the quality of communication versus the quantity. Computer-mediated communication also tends to decrease the amount of credibility between online identities and definitely blurs the lines with reality and fantasy, as the presenting group mentioned.

While computer-mediated communication and social media can cause many issues, it also creates many positive opportunities. People can now connect all over the world and form opportunities that may not have been as accessible. This creates more opportunity for niche communities and this can be displayed through meme culture.
